What are my options if I want to stay on theAtari >platform (or are there any)? Hi there, As already posted if you wanted a fully integrated Midi/Audio package you have to use Logic Audio on the Falcon (the STE's can handle playback of short samples but for HD recording you have to jump to a Falcon). If you are running Notator on an ST or STE then the options for a totally integrated package is 0! If you have a sampler with sufficient memory you could use this as a 'virtual recorder' triggered from note events in Notator. Synchronisation of long audio passages is quite difficult so if you do record a vocal passage in one go this may have to be 'chopped' into smaller samples and triggered accordingly from Notator. Also Notator can 'lock' to an external recording device via SMPTE. Therefore (like in my home studio) you could buy a seperate multitrack recorder and Unitor, 'stripe' one track with SMPTE then basically use the sequencer and tape/hard disk/mini disk machine inconjunction with each other. With hard disk recorders such as the Fostex D80 and the Roland VS880 you have editing options like cut and paste etc. very similar to what you get with Logic Audio but in a more basic form. With Mini-Disk machines like the Yamaha MD8 again you get simple audio editing but the MD machines are usually cheaper than their hard disk counterparts, the payoff bieng that Mini Disk is'nt a full bandwidth digital recording system (uses 5:1 compression). At the 'bottom' of the audio quality scale you have cassette portastudio's which are cheaper again but have no editing facilities and the quality is'nt as good as the digital options ofcourse.
