But several people have told me there is no >better sequencer than Notator, so why switch? Very true indeed! If it works, don't fix it. Don't let the flashy colours and other fancy stuff tempt you. Several members of this list will tell you that they've tried using PCs for MIDI, only to revert back to their trusty STs after a lot of crashing, rebooting and what have you. >Well, I'm certainly open to >it. Notator has been great all these years, and after applying an eraser to >the dongle, pretty crash-free. :) There you go! :-) The dongle is definitely the weak spot of the sequencer, something we've adressed to the ex-producers of the program (C-Lab/Emagic) many times, asking them to release it as a dongle-less freeware program, with very little response, and negative response when they bothered to reply at all. >So if I keep my Notator setup intact, one thing I would like to improve is >the screen size which is c. 6"x 8". I'm not sure if memory has anything to do with this, but you can indeed use a big screen nowadays. Mario Becroft in New Zealand (who's father is on this list as well) makes several very useful and cool hardware add-ons for the Atari ST computers, such as an internal IDE harddisk interface, PC-mouse and keyboard interface and of course the VGA monitor interface which allows you to use any standard PC type monitor.
