I think we need to "elect" or appoint a spokesperson to liaise with him.

Amongst ourselves, we must determine what the "wish list", prioritize it and
then have the spokesperson (the most politic person we've got) be the person
(and the ONLY person) to raise these issues in a careful and respectful
manner. If we funnel all "support" issues through one person, the odds that
he'll help increase dramatically. (Especially if we make it clear that we've
proactively taken this approach out of respect for his time).

This person needs to be both technical enough to manage the discussion
efficiently, but also savvy enough to nurture the relationship, while
displaying just the right amount of respect and appreciation for his
achievements. Just the right bit of ego stroking should help. Further -
Gerhard needs to be made aware, in a sensitive manner, the road blocks that
are in our way. He's seems like a creative guy - and I'm sure, framed
correctly, he would sympathize with the plight of so many creative folks,
stymied by the technical and pragmatic restraints we're labouring under.

This is a golden opportunity to not only keep the programs alive - but to
enhance our ability to use them in the manner they were designed - ease of
creativity.

I hope we make the most of it!

It seems unrealistic to me to expect he'll start participating on this  
list. He's surely busy with his VP job at Apple, and posting here  
would invite a flood of questions, comments, etc.  about things he may  
not remember that well anymore. It could easily turn into a big time  
sink. And if he metered his time, people would get upset about his  
unresponsiveness.  Indeed, he hasn't posted here *once* and some are  
ragging on him already! There's really no upside to it from his  
perspective that I can see.

I'll be satisfied if he responds to my query about the manual's  
copyright. I'm encouraged by the fact that he replied to Vic. Perhaps  
he's researching an answer to me and will respond.

So my answer to Vic's "Now what?" question is: "Nothing." We shouldn't  
pester him to join in. He knows where to find us and will post if he  
wants to. I see no harm if others want to send him fan mail via  
Facebook, though.
